On this page, we have dedicated the following article to a specific program that is recently disturbing our users and its name is Junemike – a typical browser hijacker that may apply various undesired changes to your browser and cause you some severe irritation and disturbance. What we mean? If a browser hijacker like Junemike operates on your system you are most probably going to experience page redirects, changes in your homepage, a new search engine and a bunch of ads and new tabs on your Chrome or Firefox. If this is somehow familiar to you, keep on reading to learn more about how to handle the situation with this program and effectively uninstall it.

Junemike – advertisement-generating software

How can you display as many ads as possible and bring traffic to your website? This is a question worth millions and many vendors and online marketers are ready to pay huge amounts of money if someone is able to deliver them such a solution. And here it comes: the browser hijacker – a tool, developed by software specialists with the sole idea to display a huge amount of advertisements and redirect users to sponsored pages and promotional websites. Voila! And on top of that, it is a legitimate piece of software that can easily incorporate itself into any browser – Chrome, Firefox, IE, Edge, etc. This is exactly what Junemike is and you have probably noticed that it starts to flood your screen with pop-ups, ads, banners, new tabs, and page redirects the very moment you open your browser. But how did it sneak inside your system?

Such pieces of software are commonly found in program bundles, where programmers distribute them along with their software. You may find them on open source download platforms, freeware-distributing websites, file sharing sites, torrents and installation managers or even spam emails. The reason they are so widely distributed on the web is because these browser hijackers generate income for their creators through a method known as Pay-Per-Click. Every click on ads or sponsored pages displayed by a program of this type cashes in, that’s why the number of pop-ups is so huge that it literally floods your screen. You may not realize it when and how such program gets installed and the main reason is that when you download and install new software on your PC (especially if it is for free) you usually proceed to the standard installation. But you may not know that this way, you overlook a major option in the given bundle – the custom/advanced settings, which enable you to manually deselect such programs if you don’t want them to get installed.

Are browser hijackers dangerous?

Unfortunately, cybercriminals don’t hesitate to use all possible methods, including Malvertising, to reach more people and spread malware all around the web. Page redirects, insecure web locations, randomly popping boxes and notifications may sometimes expose you to threats like viruses, Trojans or even Ransomware. This could happen if you are not careful while surfing the web and somehow bump into a misleading link, fake ad or illegal web page. It is not excluded that such infection may happen also through a browser hijacker, especially when you are facing a constant flow of ads and new tabs on your screen. However, this doesn’t mean that the browser hijacker is malicious itself. In fact, it cannot directly infect you with Ransomware or some other virus, it does not contain malicious scripts, nor it can harm your system or corrupt your files like malware does. That’s why security experts don’t consider it to be a serious threat to your machine and you can’t really call it dangerous.

However, there are some common browser hijacker activities, which are potentially undesired and may also cause browsing disturbance to some users. For example, Junemike may research your browsing history in order to redirect your searches to relevant promotional pages. Or it may cause your system to become sluggish due to the background ads generating activity. You may be unable to stop the popping new tabs and pages and your screen may freeze. As a result, your normal browsing activity may be heavily interrupted and you may not be able to reach the pages you desire. In case you have experienced some of the mentioned undesired consequences, you may wish to uninstall Junemike from your computer permanently. The complete removal, however, is not as easy as the installation and it may require your full attention as well as some advanced computer skills. That’s why we suggest you to follow the instructions in the removal guide below with great attention to detail. If you reach a point where you are interacting with system files and you are not sure what to delete, you should better scan your system with the Junemike removal tool. It will detect all the browser hijacker files and remove them with no risk for your system.
