So, spend a few minutes to read what we have prepared and proceed to the removal steps if you want to permanently save yourself from the ads disturbance.
Browser hijacker – is this a virus?
Software, which typically displays numerous ads on your screen and along with that imposes certain changes to your browser, is usually regarded as a Browser hijacker. Vidplayer Virus is a typical representative of this software family more so because it does behave in the above-described way and causes certain browsing disturbance to the users who face it. This piece of software has been reported recently as potentially unwanted and here we are going to explain why.
A lot of people usually get irritated by the activities of the browser hijacker. This program usually has the ability to replace the homepage or the search engine of the affected browser as well as to install some new toolbar and to initiate certain page redirects. These changes are very often unapproved by the users and cause them a lot of inconveniences, unpleasant browsing interruptions, irritation and browser issues. However, the purpose of the hijacking of the browser is not to cause any harm or destroy your system, corrupt your files, or steal your credentials. Only real malware like a Trojan, Ransomware or other computer virus can do that.
The real idea behind the intrusiveness of Vidplayer Virus is to advertise. And not only to advertise but also to bring profits to its developers’ thanks to sponsored ads positioning and clicks. Schemes like Pay-Per-Click play a great role in this revenue gaining method and different marketers, owners of online businesses and software developers benefit from it. The businesses expose their services and products and get promoted while the advertisers earn every time the users click on some of the displayed ads. A lot of developers also use such hijacking programs to “sponsor” their own software and distribute it for free by gaining profits from the clicks. That’s why they often bundle hijackers like Vidplayer Virus along with some other attractive applications and give them to the users free of charge.
How may you end up with a browser hijacker on your PC?
You may end up with programs like Vidplayer Virus on your machine if you are careless when installing new software. As we already said, the browser hijackers are usually bundled inside various installers, where they get distributed in a pack with some other interesting program. It could be a game, a new application, some optimization software, a player or some tool, which is usually available for free download. That’s why, if you get such a bundle, you should, without fail, check for additional programs through the “Advanced/Custom/Manual” options given in the setup, and manually disable the undesired application before you complete the installation. Keep in mind that spam, torrents, open source platforms, direct downloads from the web, free installers and automatic installation managers, or some download links and intrusive ads could also be sources of browser hijackers, so be selective when it comes to your software installers and stick to reputed and trusted ones.
Is there any danger if Vidplayer Virus operates on your PC?
As we already mentioned in the first paragraph, any virus can be way more harmful than what a browser hijacker could ever be and a program like Vidplayer Virus could never have such malicious effects on your system like the ones a Trojan-Ransomware based infection could have. Therefore, you should not look at the browser hijacker as a serious danger. Of course, this is valid only if you stay away from the sketchy advertising materials it floods your screen with. Some of them may eventually turn out to be misleading or infected and may redirect you to compromised or illegal pages where some real malware threats may lurk. That’s why we generally would advise you not to interact with all the popping tabs and notifications. It is also a good idea to uninstall the hijacker because this will remove its ads once and for all and you will not be tempted to click on them and end up on some shady or misleading site.
