If your Chrome, Firefox or other browser you are using is covered with ads, banners, and popups, this may be an activity caused by an adware program called Tavanero. This is an activity that is often referred to as annoying, and many users which to remove it from their system. And since you are reading this, the chance is you are also looking on how to stop the annoying ads and browse the web ad-free. Luckily, on this page we are going to show you exactly how to do that by simply following a few easy steps that you can find in the removal guide below. And what’s more – the information here will surely help you keep such programs away from your computer, so we suggest you carefully read it before you proceed to the removal instructions.

Adware – a source of disturbance

Intrusive ads, pop-ups, banners and all sorts of advertising messages usually appear on your screen with the help of specific software called adware. This term puts together all programs that behave in a certain way and bombard users with unwanted and often very aggressive blinking boxes, hot offers and notifications. Tavanero is one typical representative that is usually referred to as a potentially unwanted program and a source of irritation for many users, mainly because of its intrusive ads-generating activity. It is hard to say if this activity really brings some value to the users, however, it generates huge profits for the adware developers through a method called Pay-Per-Click. This method is widely used by many businesses and programmers and works very simple – the more ads people see and the more they click on them, the greater the profit for the people behind the adware.

What is Tavanero “Virus”?

If you are thinking that earning from ads is a shady criminal scheme and you have been infected with a nasty virus that bombards you with unstoppable pop-ups, you are wrong. Indeed, it is easy to mistake adware for malware due to the aggressiveness of the ads and the rather complicated way that adware is removed, but luckily, these two categories have nothing in common. First of all, a program like Tavanero is mostly legal and cannot be compared to an illegal form of a cyber-blackmail like Ransomware for example. Secondly, such a program is very unlikely to harm your system in any way. It does not contain malicious scripts that may destroy your data, nor can it replicate like a virus. All in all it must be noted Tavanero is not a “virus”. The worst thing that adware may do while on your computer is expose you to dozens of unwanted advertisements. Sometimes, it may cause your PC to slow down and use some system resources and internet bandwidth while loading the ads. It may track your online activity in order to display relevant ads and increase the chance of you clicking on them. But all in all, such applications, despite the irritation they cause, don’t represent a direct security risk to your computer.

However, some indirect security hazards that the ads are related to are the so-called malvertising methods, where malicious hackers place fake ads among the flow of real ones in an attempt to infect users. If they happen to click on such fake ads, they may get a harmful virus, a Trojan or even one of the nastiest online threats – Ransomware. While the chance of you being as unfortunate as to stumble upon such misleading ads is still minimal, this is a risk you can’t predict. Therefore it is a good idea to avoid interacting with such sketchy content, clicking on too attractive offers and randomly generated messages as much as possible.

Prevention is always the best protection

When it comes to adware, prevention is always better than dealing with the intrusive ads later. That’s why, even though such programs are not that problematic, it is always good to know how they spread, how they get installed on your system and what you could do to keep them away from your computer. As we already said above, clicking on random messages that pop up out of nowhere is a bad idea. The same applies to spam emails that may contain too-good-to-be-true deals and attachments. Torrents and file sharing platforms, open source downloads and installation managers are more likely to contain adware like Tavanero, especially if the software you are getting is for free.

Software developers usually distribute installation packages that along with the free desirable application you are downloading are bundled with adware. Once you run the setup to install the free software, all the potentially unwanted programs in the bundle will get installed as well, unless you manually deselect them from the custom/advanced option in the installation wizard.  If you overlooked this option the last time you got new software installed on your PC, now you will need to follow the removal guide below and uninstall Tavanero manually. However, bear in mind that removing this program of your system completely may be a bit of a complex task. Therefore, in case you can’t manage with the instructions, there is a specialized removal tool that could help you uninstall Tavanero in just a few clicks.
