Just as its name could suggest, Browser Redirect is software, which is programmed to show a banner, a pop-up advertisement, or some other form of ad on your screen. Sometimes you can easily spot the infection, however, other times it is not that obvious and you may be completely clueless that certain software or tracking cookies could have been installed on your PC’s browsers. Browser Redirect works on all famous browsers like Chrome/Firefox/Explorer/Opera… etc.

Why is the Browser Redirect so profitable?

Most of the time Browser Redirect is used by its creators to generate big profits. And we are going to explain how it in fact earns money. You may be aware that the marketing industry is one of the most successful and profitable ones. As a result, showing as many advertisements as possible increases the probability of generating amazing amounts of money. As you might expect, the more ads the program shows and you and the more times you click on them, the more money is transferred to the developers’ bank accounts.

Means of distribution

Browser Redirect may get distributed in many different ways. Here we are going to discuss the most common ones.

  • By downloading and installing programs from software bundles:
    A software bundle most commonly represents free software that you download from the web,  which often contains some questionable extra “features” within the installer. A possible infection might take place whenever you make a decision to install the free program by default. Despite that, we recommend that you always proceed with the Manual/Customized option of the installer. After you have chosen that feature, you should always carefully read all the End-User Agreements and menus to become better aware of the software that gets installed on your machine. If you follow this advice, you are likely to minimize the risk of catching an Browser Redirect infection. This tip might also be able to spare you the headache of having to fight various types of actual malware like Ransomware, because you will have a clear idea of what infiltrates your personal computer and what stays out of it.
  • Torrents and shareware may also be used to distribute Browser Redirect ;
  • Be  really careful and avoid opening seemingly strange emails, as some Browser Redirect-causing links could be waiting for your click on them;
  • Compromised websites – you are supposed to try to act in a smart way when it comes to browsing the web. Stay away from any webpages that have a bad reputation;

What may possibly go wrong…

Typically, you have no actual reason to be worried when it comes to the probable negative consequences of Browser Redirect, as they are not really dangerous and they are really few. Some of the generated advertisements might be able to redirect you to possibly suspicious web pages, which could have some viruses like Ransomware lurking inside them. The potential negative aspects of Browser Redirect may sometimes be just as serious, because this ad-producing software could have been programmed to track your browsing activities and preferences, and sell that data to 3rd parties.

Does Safebrowsing.biz indeed represent malware?

It is vital to claim that most Browser Redirect types DO NOT represent viruses or other versions of malware. This applies to Safebrowsing.biz “malware” as well. Again – Safebrowsing.biz is not really a malware! Nevertheless, they may still be considered a very irritating marketing tool. In spite of the annoyance this software may often cause, it is unable to steal personal information about accounts passwords, banking info or other credentials. In addition to that, Browser Redirect doesn’t have the ability to self-replicate, to destroy any data on your computer or to lock up any of your files.
