Become a Contributor
NOTE: We received many, many applications from potential contributors for the writing position we advertised a while back. Thank you for your enthusiasm! Sadly, we won't be able to reply to everyone who applied. We have a small team we were literally inundated with mail. As we grow and add staff, we will be able to respond in a more timely and friendly fashion to things like this.
SUBMITTING A STORY QUERY:
Dowser is a site for solution journalism. We seek blog entries from writers who have an accessible voice and solid reporting skills, a knack for uncovering new ideas and models in social innovation, and -- for analysis and opinion pieces -- the ability to state a position clearly and defend it with evidence. We prioritize accuracy and attention to details. In addition to fresh reporting, we're looking for bloggers who can unearth interesting things they find -- videos, photos, articles, items, books, etc. -- that describe or explain solutions.
TO SUBMIT:
Please send an email with the subject line QUERY to mailbox 'at' dowser.org. A query should summarize in 1-3 paragraphs the gist of the story, why we should cover it now, and why you're the writer to do it. If you are submitting your first query to us, please include 2 sentences about your prior writing experience and 2 short writing samples, preferably links to posts. It's helpful if you provide us with a link or two that makes it easier for us to vet the idea, person, organization or whatever else you plan to cover.
PAYMENT:
You're not going to live off this but hopefully it will help! We pay $25 for blog entries and $50 for longer pieces. (For some assigned pieces with steady writers, we will pay more for more extensive reporting.)
